A wooden wren. This bird is beautifully carved from a mahogany type wood. With a concealed painted wooden egg. Painted and varnished with acrylics. The beak is carved from box wood. It is painted first with brown acrylic with an overcoat of black. These colours are then partially sanded off to reveal the carving of the beak. It is then finished with 3 coats of acrylic varnish. The eggs are turned from limewood. Spray painted with white acrylic on a base of gesso, finished with a speckling of red/brown acrylic. Each egg is slightly differently speckled, as in nature. The eggs are finished with acrylic varnish. The bird's bodies are joined with a brass axle. They are finished with 3 coats of acrylic varnish. The final coat is flat, giving a lustrous finish. An unusual gift for bird lovers with a realistic wooden egg hidden in its body. Includes a separate wooden part that enables the wren to be perched on branches etc if desired. Length approx. 7cms (3 inches). Height approx. 6.5cms (2.5 inches)
